From 1877-1982 over 270,000 oz. of gold and silver have been recovered, as well as 7 million tons of copper. These were reported totals-there is no telling how much unreported gold was removed. Almost all of the public lands around Hillsboro are under active lode and placer claims and are difficult to acquire. Most of the placer gold recovered was in Wicks Gulch. The claim has a portion of this rich gulch. Access is good. A dirt road runs thru the claim. A two wheel drive vehicle will easily make it to the claim. There are many flat spots to set up camp on the claim. There is many places for a camper or RV to pull off of the road. Bedrock is shallow in some places and deep in others. Truth or Consequences is about 20 minutes away, and Las Cruces is about 75 minutes. Both of these metropolitan areas offer restaurants, lodging, entertainment, and supplies.
